Lynn Shoemakers Strike begins.

February 22, 1860

Some 3,000 workers vote to strike in a meeting at Lyceum Hall. The strike lasts for several weeks, spreads across New England to involve some 20,000 workers, and becomes the largest strike in U.S. history up to that time. It results in higher wages – but only for male workers.
